There was a girl who was very simple, not very outspoken, focused on her studies. Family and friends were her strength. Being from a conservative background, she was not permitted to have friendship with boys, moreover she herself was also not so keen. She was contented with whatever she had, but then she somewhere felt a void. She used to wonder why do boys don't notice her. Whether its because she didn't pay attention to such stuff or that she herself is not worthy of anyone's attention. Not that she wanted to be in a relationship but it was definitely affecting her self confidence.
Amidst such backdrop, the girl accepted an unknown friend request on a social networking website. Not that she had anything particular in her mind but just for the sake of chat experience, to know how it feels like to chat online.
Starting with formal chats and moving on with cracking jokes and leg pulling, things were changing slowly. The girl knew that the guy is lying at several times. But it didn't bother her because they didn't owe anything to each other. She used to laugh at his flirty lines and at times used to get angry over them.
Time was passing by, and one day the guy told the girl that he liked her. At first, the girl took it casually; after all how could she trust a guy who was flirting with 'n' number of girls at a time. The girl was not very sure whether he was honest or not, but she really felt nice and hoped he was not lying. But she clearly conveyed to him that a relationship between them is not possible, and if he continues his ways, she would stop talking.
All this time the girl's head was spinning with thoughts. She liked to chat with the guy but was not looking forward to any kind of relationship, she had just thought about friendship. She felt something for him, may be it was attraction she thought. Obviously who would not be attracted to a person showing concern for you. For few days everything was normal but again the boy hit back. This time he said that he loved her. "I LOVE YOU" Three words which change the life of the listener. The girl was puzzled. She was in a dilemma, to believe him or not because somewhere her gut feeling said that she is falling for the wrong guy and her heart wanted to believe his words but was not able to.
The girl stopped talking to the guy but was not able to get rid of his thoughts. The guy was trying to persuade her to talk but she just would not. Meanwhile, she spent sleepless nights and considering herself guilty for breaking his heart. How could she consent to his proposal. She liked him as a friend but she knew it was not love. Sometimes she used to think, what if he is just faking all emotions and is just playing with her. This thought would make her feel like a fool, to take some one so seriously who is just whiling away time by flirting with girls.
She was not able to stay at peace. He kept haunting her thoughts. She thought that if the guy really loved her why would he be sarcastic at times. Why would not he share his weaknesses with her. Why would not he speak about his friends. She used to blame herself for making him feel miserable. Amongst all the wreck in the head, she missed talking
to the guy, because knowing or unknowingly he was the first and only guy to whom she had opened up. For the first time someone had said so many lovely things and showed so much care. She too for the first time ever wanted to know and understand a guy.
After some time she wished to know whether they could be just friends. On the following day, the guy came online and she decided to talk to him. Both were chatting as if nothing had passed between them. And all of a sudden, the guy again moved back to his previous track of proposing her. This time he asked whether she liked him. To which the girl answered in a denial. But he said " I know you. You won't be able to say it, but you do feel it and I really love you". At these words, the girl abruptly closed her chat box and decided not to talk to him forever. May be lot of questions remain unanswered, may be lot of pain was to be endured. May be there was truth in his words or may be not. But she had decided to end whatever was there between them.
But what was the exact relationship between the two. Was it friendship? Was it love or something between friendship and love? Or simply a smart guy trying to get a girl and a stupid enough girl to believe all his nonsense.
