Oh really! An expression I usually get from people when I tell them my name. I know a couple; it’s been a year and half and they are still searching for a name for their baby boy. Recently a colleague told me that her name is her identity and all these incidents keep me pondering, “Why people are so cautious about names?”

I am sure about one thing your name is not your identity. Identity is something unique, each person having his own identity. Consider each person as the box in a Schrödinger’s cat experiment; until and unless you open that box, you can’t say what’s inside.

On the other hand name is like a code for recognizing a person, which may or may not be unique. This code is generated based on many things religion, place, caste, community etc. It is also influenced by the recent tv series and movies. So a name creates bias. Name is also confusing. E.g. Homo sapiens have started acting like chameleons. So I think they should be renamed to Homo Chameleons or whatever appropriate ;p.

The irony is name is getting all the limelight. It is trending and we focus too much on it but why? For instance there are few/many people named Aditya Birla but only one was business tycoon. Consider another example someday if I name my son Kumar mangalam, together we may have many ideas but it’s a lot different than having the !dea.

!dea telecasted a TVC citing that name is not that important. We too should lose our obsession for name. We should seek our identity. We should think about things which create our identity, things which define who we are. We should look beyond the name. We should break the shackles associated with the name. As somebody said,” Lose yourself to find yourself”
