What did I do?

When it was known that I was coming; no one was pleased,
When I was born, my grandmother did not pick me up
What did I do?
My brother got all the presents, and what I got were his used toys to play with
My father didn’t buy me new toys
What did I do?
When I started to go to school,
He dropped my brother to school, and I had to go on my own
I got my brother’s old bag and books
What did I do?
I had a fight with my brother; he beat me up and pulled my hair,
My mother scolded me for teasing him, and hugged him instead
What did I do?
When I went out on the streets, a guy whistled looking at me,
He tried to touch me; I resisted but he did succeed
Anyway, I was blamed here too
What did I do?
I loved a guy but it wasn’t allowed in my family,
He loved me, his family liked me too
My father married me off to a guy of his choice
What did I do?
I was forced to sleep with a guy, whom I didn’t even know,
To satisfy his wishes and forget my own
I wasn’t happy but I had to live
I had nothing but my life to give
What did I do?
I came to know I was going to be a mother soon; it was a girl,
I decided to end her life,
Not wanting her to think every time “what did I do?”
