As I go through folk's writings here, I notice things.
The way they speak, the pattern of their thought.
The oratorical skill, their words that kill.
But I look for character.. the pen's that is.
For it reveals the hand that holds it.
Is he a nice man? Or somehow weird?
Does she practice what she talks about? Or just a nerd?
I see pens that scribble out things. They may not be fluent, they need help. But are quite honest, upright, writing from their hearts.
Acknowledging errors, willing to change.
But some go on stubbornly, thinking they don't need help.
Being here a year has shown me one thing.
That only pens with character write consistently!
Now some pens want to change the world. They start lashing out at everybody.
Like Amitabhji. Our angry young man from the movies.
Now being angry and young is a futile combine. A passing phase. Anger by itself serves little purpose, unless accompanied by a willingness to sacrifice oneself for the cause.
Or else it's plain rhetoric, with no character.
Now let me ask you..
Have you passed the test? And come out with a new resolve to be a better person?
Are you humbler than before? Or has pride of success blinded your eyes?
Is the deceitfulness of riches choking you out? Is your ego stifling your goodness?
Are you willing to acknowledge your faults?
When was the last time you apologized to someone?
Have you waited to hear them out?
If not..I'm sorry..
You still have miles to go, dear writer.
Well for me, a successful writer is one with character.
Not just one who writes with aplomb.
Or throws words like bombs.
Remember, an angry Amitabh is confined to only movies..
A pen by itself can do few things..
But a pen with character can change the world!
Thank you for such a deep thoughtful poetry with substantial message.
"a willingness to sacrifice oneself for the cause" is my fav. line:)
Keep up the good work:)
