A fellow next doors yells into his mike full blast. Its a different kind of tuneless song he sings. Spiritual. He probably searches for peace. But disturbing the entire neighbourhood's peace.
Whether its bhajans in the trains or in the house..ought we to let the whole world know we are so pious?
Is piety to be exhibited brazenly at others' cost?
Doesn't spirituality actually cost us something?
True piety is paying heed to others' sentiments, not trampling on their rights.
The right to live peacefully without intrusion into their privacy.
True piety is visiting the widows and orphans in their suffering and keeping ourselves untainted in this world.
Its definitely not about making a big noise.
Its treading carefully fearing lest sentiments are crushed.
Its putting others before you.
Its about actions speaking louder than mere words.
Its found in selfless service to all who come our way. Its opening our wallets to help the needy. Our hearts to the discouraged.
Firmly rebuking the downright greedy.
Wishing with all my heart that my people know and practise this true piety.
