When in 9th class, I learnt the popular saying 'Procrastination is the thief of time.' Many years later, it occurred to me that the above saying can not be classified under PROVERB because the two key words 'Thief' and 'Time' are inappropriate. A thief is one who takes unlawfully what is not his own, esp. by stealth. Time is not a physical asset like gold, cash or any other valuable goods that it will be stolen. It is absurd to say any one will take away time since TIME is eternal.
However, procrastination results in important losses. First, if an opportunity comes your way, and you say, I will do or avail it later, that opportunity will not come again. It is almost lost for ever. Second, when you postpone doing your things, those things accumulate. After some time, the accumulation becomes a pile. You are flooded with so many things that need to be done in a short span of time. You become restless and confused. What to do first, what to do next, how to do, etc? A work, you would normally have completed in half an hour, would, in all probability, now, take much longer ,and you are likely not to do it properly, and good chances you will make mistakes. The cause of procrastination is laziness and procrastination increases laziness .
The right proverb would be 'PROCRASTINATION KILLS OPPORTUNITY AND KILLS GROWTH.'
