` The glass which is half empty is also half filled. It depends on how we want to see the aspects of life. Positively or Negatively .’
The boy still remembers the perfect words of his Guruji. The teaching of Guruji is his strength. He never has come to know the man’s name. They first met at that night when the boy tried to commit suicide. He was standing in the rail line, looking directly at the glowing headlight of the upcoming train. As the train was coming closer he was trying to become more determined on his path, thinking of his miserable life.
His parents had died last year on a car accident. From then he had been living with his uncle’s. When his parents were with him, every relative treated him well. But after their death no one showed eagerness to keep him with them . Atlast somehow his only maternal uncle, Sudhir Mama agreed .Though he was treated like a servant in their house. He had to do regular household jobs there- washing utensils, clothes;cleaning house etc. His uncle didn’t enroll him to a school though his own boys goes school daily. The boy, Raunak, was given three meals a day, though inadequate. He suffered from malnutrition, excessive tiredness and depression there. Every day he had dreamt of his parents and wept. He had prayed repeatedly for a relief of his daily burden. But not every prayer is answered. And so finally he decided to commit suicide.
The train was only a few meter away from him. He closed his eyes, making his mind ready for the final blow of pain. The siren of the train was whistling at its mightiest. The warmth of the luminous of headlights was felt in his eyelids. He took a deep breath, almost choking in it. His heart was pounding like never before. Suddenly he felt a strong pull on his right hand, and fell on the bush beside the line. A cold blow of wind hushed past with the speeding train. The boy felt numb. He was lying like a statue on the bush. The same strong hands pulled him and led him to a nearby cottage. He was silent. He didn’t even notice the man who saved his life. He was just being led by his saviour.
“ You foolish boy! It’s not an age to die. What happened to you? What pain you, my son?” the man asked. The boy couldn’t say anything. He wept. Nobody in this world cared for him. So what the purpose to live such life, he thought. The man gave him some water and made him take some rest. A few hour later the boy felt well. That night over dinner the boy told the man everything of his life . For the first time he noticed the man. He was wearing a white dhoti and vest. He is probably in his fourties. His eyes were so bright. His face was calm, bright with a sense of wisdom and peace.
“My son ,life is of so much hurdles and puzzles. But one should never lose hope. You will see the light one day. You will find peace with your inner self. A man is lonely if he thinks himself alone. Think of your parents. They surely wouldn’t want you to end your life like this if they had been alive. You will find your purpose of life. ” The man responded. A warm smile appeared in his face.
The boy didn’t return to his uncle. He started to live with the man. He called him `Guruji’.He truly was a devoted spiritual man, kind and wise.In that locality everybody used to call him Guruji. He admitted the boy in class XI in a local school. Guruji too educated him with his moral wisdom. The boy learnt to be compassionate to the mankind,to love every human being. He learnt to be patient, self reliable and kind. His loneliness was gone. He started to dream again of becoming a doctor. His parents always had wanted him to become one.
Guruji used to teach in a local primary school. And with his monthly salary he and the boy carried out their livings. He took care of the boy like his own son. The boy was happy again.
“ I was all alone in this cottage before I met you. My wife and only child died a long ago in my village at Burdwan in a flood. My fields, home were destroyed. I was broken. From then I was travelling from places to places to find peace. But I couldn’t. One day I met a yogi in Hrishikesh. He was an enlightened person. He knew my past I don’t know how. He taught me with a calm mind one can achieve his goal. But one must have a purpose of life.”Guruji said looking at the boy. The boy was eager to know more.
Guruji continued,”I was a disciple of that yogi, the only one. He taught about spirituality. With his teachings I found peace with my innerself,my soul. I wanted to take Sannyas. But when I wanted to learn the yoga, he said that I wasn’t ready yet. He advised me to roam free again and do charity wherever I go, in order to pure myself and make myself free of all worldly desires. From last three years i am living here"
The boy has become very dear to Guruji. Three year has passed. The boy now goes to medical college. He also now teaches at the primary school every morning with Guruji. He now has found a true purpose of life.
One morning he woke up and found that Guruji was no where in the cottage. The boy searched for him nearby but couldn’t find him. When he came back a page was seen in Guruji’s bed. Its written-- My son don’t feel alone. I will always be with you. But You must understand that if I live with you my purpose of life will never be fulfilled. Salvation is my purpose. I must free myself of worldly desires in order to become a yogi. Any sort of attachment is strictly forbidden. With you it is not possible, cause to me you are my son ,my family. A yogi must sacrifice everything in order to get enlightened.
In the trunk of mine you will find a passbook. Its in your names, son. I have put my entire savings for you. Remember what I taught you. You surely will make me and your parents proud . Take my blessings. If God wishes we definitely will meet again.
The boy hasn’t cry this time like he did for his parents. He has kept the letter in his desk and made himself ready for his morning school. He will live his life . He knows he has so many things to achieve. He has to fulfill his destiny. The bright sun with new hopes has rose again…
