Walking through the waterlogged footpath, I reached the high street. I looked both my sides and crossed the road, having taken a glance behind. The weather had been gloomy since morning and it had no intention to consider my helpless condition and moderate its power. The untimely rain had locked every people within the boundaries of their own house. Being Sunday, there were hardly any shop open even at 5'o clock in the evening, which is considered to be the most busy period of the city on any working day. The rain seemed to pour with an arrogant attitude.
Maybe, all these calamities were enough for a teenager returning from his tuition, walking through this devastating condition but these were less to worry me for I felt a person following me since I had left the stationery shop, which was though closed yet had quite a comfortable shade, comfortable enough for me to wait for the rain to stop. It was completely a wrong decision to stand there. First of all, the rain hardly responded positively to my wish but it did show its imperial power to pour water on all my plans. Now, after getting out of that place, I have someone following me through the narrowest road I had taken. It was enough to irritate me a lot. I thought for a moment to straightforward question the man but he had a huge figure, enough to keep myself within my limits.
I was close to my home but to my misfortune, neither the rain nor the man was ready to leave me alone. I tried to walk faster to get rid of the man at least, but my efforts once again went in vain for I found the man increased his pace too and was almost got hold of me. I started running. The man followed me too. Thoughts tried to peep in my mind, each having its own beliefs and each mixed with one another forming an indefinite bundle of nothing. For a moment I thought that the man was a kidnapper, then a thief and then a mere roadside gang leader, though I had no idea about his intentions and that why he was behind me.The rain too enjoyed the scene and seemed to dance with my running footsteps. I cursed Nature but Nature was clever enough to return a punishment back to me and within no time, I fell flat on the ground, rolling in mud. To my surprise, the man came and stood next to me. He placed his right palm on my shoulder.
' What do you want of me?' I asked him curiously, but with a suppressed fear.
He remained silent. He pulled me to a nearby shed and made me sit comfortably. Then, he took out a piece of paper from his chest pocket along with a pen. He started writing on the paper. It was ridiculous to write something in that disastrous condition. He handed the note to me. I read the note. It said -
"I am a dumb man. I only had to say that you had taken my umbrella instead of yours when you has left from the shade of the closed stationery shop. I have been trying to stop you since then. But, it was as if you had seen a ghost and tried to run away. Please give my umbrella back. I have to return home soon."
After reading the note, I took a look of the umbrella in my hands. I assured myself it was not mine. He took the umbrella from my hand, returned mine and left.
I sat there, still helpless, for I was not able to rearrange my thoughts. The rain seemed to laugh at my condition and finally it thought, " Its useless to follow this foolish lad." Saying this, it left my company and the prolonged period of its majestic attitude came to an end.
