It was not the usual atmosphere in Cardenford, but today it was gloomy and desolated. There were buzzing of the sirens all around as the police cars were patrolling the village. There was no other option but the police to involve in the dreadful situation of the village. Three kidnaps in one week!!! There is still no clue on who has done this. It has been a week since the people in the village have lived their peaceful life.
John was going to his school and was terrified seeing the situation of his village. He is a 9th grader who is sharp, quick thought, bright. He always dreamt of being a detective and the present situation of his village sparked few ideas in him. He told about the strange happenings of his village to his friends. Brendon and Cathie were his two best friends. These both were afraid after listening to what john had said. They just prayed that no more people should go missing. John too prayed along with them.
That night before sleeping John prayed for the kidnapped people along with his mother. His father was seated in the lounge reading a magazine. After praying, John and his mom went to sleep. They were not aware of what was going to happen the next day.
Early in the morning John could hear the sounds of a shrill cry. He wished it was not from his home. But was shocked to see his mother sobbing heavily in front of the police. From the conversation of his mother and police, John understood that his father had been kidnapped. He felt melancholic and wanted to something. Police had asked John and his mother to vacate their home and stay under their refuge. John could not stop himself, so he went to the school and told about his father’s kidnap to his friends. He also told them that he would do some investigation and would need their help. Brendon agreed to this immediately but Cathy was hesitant and was silent. John and Brendon started discussing about the plans for their action. Seeing this Cathy was felt she was left out and so agreed to get in with them. John was happy and thanked his friends.
As the initial step he told them that they had to search his house first and try to find some clue. He told them that they had to carry out this clandestine operation without any mistake as the house in under surveillance and no one would be allowed to get in. But John knew a secret entry to his home and was successful to get into his home with his friends. He asked them to search the entire house without making any sound. They started their search and it went on for quite a long time. Their search was interrupted when they heard the siren of the police car. They realized that they had to leave now. When they were rushing out Brendon slipped and had a fall in the hall. John and Cathie stopped and went to help Brendon. This was when they found their first clue. John spotted a viscous liquid on the floor. He knew that this was not from his house. The three were happy about their first finding.
Just then the police entered the room. He was shocked to see the three inside, inspite of having heavy security around the house. He started to shout at them and wanted to know the reason for their entry. John told him about their plan of carrying out the investigation. Police started to laugh at them. John felt dejected and showed him their finding. Police stopped his laugh now and bent to touch the liquid. Police smelled the liquid and told them that it was a sedative anesthesia. Police took some drops in a plastic pack. John told him that it was not used by anyone from his house and doubted if this was used to kidnap his father. The police was impressed by their finding and asked them to assist his future investigation.
Police revealed to the three that according to the FBI reports there is a mysterious man residing in the outskirts of the village, who might be the kidnapper. But before searching that place they had to find about the anesthesia. So they went to the local hospital and showed Lisa, the doctor, the sample. She was dumbfounded and did not respond for some time. Later she told them that it was a banned anesthesia and the person who can produce this is Dr. Mark Vincent, who has been suspended from the duty for his lifetime. Police asked the reason for his suspension and Lisa replied - “Mark was a very sincere and hardworking doctor who had developed this medicine that could cure many diseases. But he started to act strange after the death of his wife and he used the anesthesia for wrong purposes and had killed many patients. So he was suspended”. Police had gathered all the possible information about Mark from the hospital.
Police and his three companions now moved towards Mark’s place. They were suspicious about the connection between the mysterious man and Mark. They reached Mark’s place. It was an isolated place in the midst of the forest with no people living nearby. They now entered the house without creating much noise. There was no light in the house and so they found it hard to see anything inside. After a long search they found nothing. John was dejected and was stepping hardly on the floor beneath him. Cathy had observed his steps and shouted his name. John missed a beat of his heart on hearing Cathy and stopped immediately. Police and Brendon were seeing them now. Cathy asked John to trace his path back in the same way he had moved forward. John followed what Cathy had told. Cathy asked John to do it repeatedly and then the other three in the room understood the reason for it. At a particular spot on the floor there was a varied sound that was heard compared to all other parts of the floor. All of them now moved towards that spot and were shocked to see a handle on it.
Police now caught hold of the handle and pulled it hard. The wooden floor came out with the pull and all of them saw the spiral steps that would lead them underground. Police asked the three to stay where they were and not to get in the ground way. They agreed to what police had said. Police now moved slowly in the spiral steps, he could not see anything inside. He got down continuously and could see dimly light hurricane lamp in a hall that was there. He was surprised to see four people tied to the chair. He moved towards them and realized that they were the one who were kidnapped. He was about to free them but stopped from doing it after he heard a voice behind him. The voice welcomed the police and introduced himself as Mark. Police remained motionless though he could have shot him to death. Mark told police that the two people in front of him are on high dosage of the anesthesia and would die in anytime now. The other two were about to be fed with the dosage. Police asked Mark the reason for kidnapping the innocent people. Mark was annoyed by the question and shouted that these four people were the friends of the person who was responsible for the death of his wife.
Police was boggled by the reason Mark had told him. Police reacted immediately, placed his hand in the pistol pouch but he had to avoid taking his pistol out because he was now being caught in front of a pistol by Mark. Mark started to talk strangely and was about to pull the trigger. The bullet was fired and there was blood on the floor. But the police was still standing steady on the floor and was surprised to see Mark lying down in his bloodstream. Police now spotted a man moving towards him with a pistol in his hand. He realized that Mark was shot by this person. The stranger introduced himself to police and told that he was the person who was residing in the outskirts of the village and FBI had reported about him. The stranger further told that he was a detective from the neighboring town who was asked to carry out the clandestine operation of finding out the person responsible for the death of innocent people from his town who had been admitted in the hospital in this village. The four people tied to the chair were now freed and were immediately taken to the hospital. After treating them for nearly 2 hours Lisa assured police that they were out of danger.
John was happy to hear the news and thanked Lisa for saving his father. He also thanked the police and his friends for being a part of finding the innocent people including his father.
P.S: The news of the death Mark was officially announced in the village. The people in village were happy on hearing the news. John and his family were happy to be safe.
