I felt the urge to write about it, when I came across the fact that the death toll due to the scam has gone up to 11 and is sure to raise in coming days. A person aptly remarked that 'Barasat'(the place where each house either had an agent or was an investor of the notorious company) looked as if it was struck by a cyclone. The death toll includes a murder, a suicide by an agent's father, suicide of a bankrupt investor, a depressed and helpless agent. This scam is really not less than a natural disaster.
It's easy 2 say dat how can 1 trust such chit funds or people should not be greedy. Practically speaking every person aspires for a better life. Some want a proper place to live, others seek for a better education for their kids. Is it wrong to aspire? Were all the investors greedy? I don't think so.. The images of people wailing was too moving.
What is it that drives people to such schemes? The access to such schemes is so easy, not wrapped up in formalities. At the beginning such schemes show good returns which adds up more people and day by day as more and more people enter, such schemes appear trustworthy. It's a common human notion'So many people are investing, may be its not bogus'.
The condition of agents is too bad coz they are both accusers and accused. They are trapped by the company and investors are after them to recover their money. Such is the condition that some of the agents are selling away their possessions to pay off investors, even if it means their bankruptcy coz people not only invested their money but also their trust.
Finally coming to the cunning head "Sudipto Sen"(I know cunning is a very decent word for such a person). This guy has wreaked havoc with his evil designs. Reading the wiki page of this scam, I was so shocked at the modus operandi of the so called company. So convincingly he must have won the trust of people, by showing he runs so many channels and newspapers,has political patronage. Perhaps, few months back if any person would have shown distrust in the ill- fated company would have been termed as a fool.
