He Steps His Mighty Step

Four: Jose to the Rescue

78 months of Tribulations….May

Tanana Valley………………….

Chris Junior and his team had a plan to rescue Chris Senior from the jail in Nenana. They also knew that within a few days Pearson and his cohorts would move Chris to Fairbanks to be executed. The team knew their plan had to be completed and Chris had to be rescued within the next twenty- four hours.

The team of five realized the challenge they had before them so they prayed for God’s guidance in the next few hours as they did their best to accomplish their task.

Junior led three ATV’s as they traveled toward the little village of Nenana where for the moment Chris Senior was being held in Jail.

When they arrived within sight of the jail, they could see that Pearson and his crew were loading Chris Senior into a van to transport him to Fairbanks and Pearson’s team was fully armed. Junior’s team could see five or six guards besides Pearson and they were using two vans. The team did not see which van their leader was put into.

The Sheriff’s two vans started on their way up the old Parks’ Highway toward Fairbanks. Junior had a hunch their enemies knew there would be a rescue attempt and Pearson and his cohorts were ready for any such challenge.

Junior and his friends devised a couple of plans just in case the Pearson crew did something unexpected. The young Meyers was well aware of several short cuts his ATV’s could use to get in front of the two vans. Within a half an hour Junior was sitting on a small rise above the highway waiting for Pearson’s appearance. They waited for several minutes and didn’t see either van.

A call came into to Junior on his cell phone. “This is Junior……OK, they are not here…..They turned off like I expected….. Jose is on his way? He’s my hero….Tell him the plan….i think they have stopped to wait till dark…..Let’s find them and you tell Jose what to do. Awesome. See ya!!”

Jose had enlisted his own team to help with the rescue unbeknownst to Junior until he received the phone call from one of his team members. Jose’s team was told to come in from the south and look for Pearson near milepost 328 near the old Skinny Joe’s place at the summit. Part of Junior’s team was just east of the old restaurant, and Junior was a little north and west across the road.

The two vans were parked outside Skinny Joe’s but Junior did see anybody from Pearson’s team. The young Meyers decided he would dismount and walk across the road. It was getting dark but he was still careful as he approached the building.

Junior signaled his team members behind the building and they established vantage points to virtually surround the location. Jose’s team worked closer from the south.

The first thing Junior wanted to do was confirm that his dad was in the building. He could see a dim light coming from a small window in front and he moved closer for a better look.

Junior got up to the window and couldn’t see anyone in the room where the light was. He signaled to the team in back and they reported that they saw no one either.

Junior backed away from the building and returned to his ATV and he called Jose, “Hey buddy, thanks for the rescue…No one in there….Where did they go? I didn’t think of that…We need to tell Nate out back….There could be an exit on the hill.”

Nate, who was leading the team in back of Skinny Joe’s, was told to see if there was an exit from the basement down in back. He let Junior know he thought so, but there was not action back there. He said he would take a closer look.

From their vantage point near the highway, Jose and Junior heard shots fired that sound like they came from behind the restaurant so they ran that direction.

When they arrived in the back of Skinny Joe’s they found Nate lying on the ground with a gunshot wound in his arm. He told them he was OK, but Pearson and his bunch came out through the back door and they had Chris Senior. Nate told them that Pearson and his bunch headed down the hill toward the creek, and he thought they must have had this planned.

Jose grabbed a couple of guys from his team and headed down the hill in the direction the bad guys took Chris. Junior decided he would take some of his team around and head Pearson off at the creek.

One gentleman form Nate’s team stayed with Nate and tended his wound. The other’s followed Jose down the hill and then went down the creek to circle around
.
Jose and his crew stopped just before the creek. They watched as Pearson drug Chris through the water and to the other side. The Sheriff’s team looked like they knew where they were going. They followed a small trail that led deeper into the woods.

Jose contacted Junior and he told the young Meyers what he had just learned. Junior’s team crossed the creek and continued into the woods. The team leader had an idea where Pearson was headed so he wanted to get there first.

Junior and his team entered a clearing where he could hear the humming of an engine. Junior announced, “We have to hurry..It’s a runway….and an airplane ready to take off. Let’s go disable that plane.”

As he ran down the length of the large clearing, Junior called Jose and filled him in on what was going on. Jose told Junior he knew what he was going to do.

Junior sent one of his men to the right and the other to the left. They needed to get to the plane and Jose was going to go after Pearson before he was able to get to the plane.

When he got behind the plane, Junior fired a round at the tail of the aircraft. It shattered the tail in half. Junior’s team member on the left grabbed the pilot out of his seat and out onto the ground. He held a gun to his head as he dragged him into the trees. Junior’s other team member jumped into the plan and turned it off and he threw the keys into the woods.

Junior decided he’d better go help his best buddy get Pearson, so he crept up the tiny trail where he heard some commotion in the trees. Jose and his team walked toward Junior with Chris Senior between them.
Junior asked, “You, OK, Dad? Where’s the bad guys, Jose?”

Jose answered, “Took off like a bunch of babies…I figured we didn’t need to chase them, right now. They won’t get very far with those vans but they can try.”

They all laughed and then they heard a loud explosion. Junior spoke, “Those guys won’t be bothering anyone for a while. Thank you, Jesus.”

Chris Senior inserted, “Thank you, guys….I thought I was dead. I’m OK, but a little shaken…God is so good.”
