The morning was unusually pleasant. Sun had woken her up with its bright rays. It was an important day. She was meeting him for the lunch. He wanted to spend some time with her before he left to pursue his masters from New York. They decided to meet at a small restaurant beside the lake. She had fallen in love with Abhay 9 months ago when she met him at a social gathering. It was a fairy tale love story. Everything was perfect. Small fights didn't matter, she was madly in love, already decided to spend her life with him.
She knew it would be utterly difficult without him, but was aware that he had dreamed of studying in New York since he was 6 years old.
She woke up early, completed her household chores, and started to get ready for the lunch. She took a leisure bath, washed her hair. She wore the most beautiful skirt she owned, a white cotton skirt with colored patches, she had saved it for a special occasion. She never wore make up, he had fallen in love with her because of her simplicity. She decided to let her hair loose that day.
He was waiting for her at best seat of the restaurant. He wasn't a fancy person with flowers , chocolates or gifts. He had nothing to offer to her except his love that she relished. He wasn't prepared to say good bye to her. He sat calmly in his blue jeans and a crisp shirt. He had made some effort to dress for their meeting, he cleaned his hair, wore some fragrance and polished his shabby shoes. He was nowhere flamboyant. He was a sensible boy with average looks and more than decent family background.
Abhay's father was a distinguished lawyer of the town who had worked hard to earn whatever he had in life. He wanted Abhay to get the best education, and always encouraged him to be first in everything. Abhay was an obedient child, worked hard to make his father's dream come true, and got admission in Post Graduation in Business Administration in New York University.
Abhay first met Nandini at his cousin's wedding. A timid young girl was struggle with her dupatta when his eyes caught her, fair complexion, twinkling eyes, curly locks and not so tall height had him mesmerized. Nandini was a literature student, he thought she was too quirky. They got along from the first meeting itself. No later they started meeting more frequently, and finally he made the courageous move to propose to her at same place where they were meeting.
