I watched in horror as she moved towards me, with eyes so red and bloodied hands. She was a bad spirit that I had to get rid of or else my baby would be killed. She was as usual clothed in a white dress with a small hole just where her heart used to be.
She shrieked wickedly as I scrambled to my legs and tried to get out of the room. I stumbled over the chair and reached for Kenneth before her. She whined and got angrier.
''He's mine. You can't take him away from me.'' The voice in which she said that sent chills down my spine.
''I am not afraid of you. Kenneth is my only baby and I'll fight for him till my last breathe.''
He was the only heir of the Berrylorn family. She has already killed four of my adorable nephews and loving nieces.
''He has to die just as Lord Vondolf has killed my son and I. Just because I was from a poor family and illiterate do not mean that I could not have been a good wife.''
Her death which I heard from my mother-in-law, Lady Liza was unfair and pretty gruesome. My father-in-law was a dictator but his reign has long been over.
''Take my life but leave Kenneth alone.''
From my late mother, I'd acquired some black powers which I did not use due to dangerous consequences such as I might lose my life but from the depth of my heart I knew that I'd be the one to help that woman.
I took Kenneth and went out of the room. She had to follow me so I lead her to the room where she was murdered. To my dismay, the room was locked and the keys were gone. I took a nearby chair and crashed it against the wooden door. In a puff of cloudy dust, the door broke and I got inside with the bad spirit on my trail.
Kenneth was crying with fright and I tried to conform him as tears continued falling down my cheeks.
''Calm down my darling. This nightmare will soon be over.''
She was starring at the spot where she had been lying dead as if she was remembering everything that happened that night.
''I guess you know that my husband loved you unconditionally. However, between us there was only trust and respect, he never loved me like he loved you.''
She seemed to be lost somewhere in a dream but I knew she was listening to me. I started chanting and invoking my husband's spirit. This asked for strength and concentration.
''He died during the second world war while fighting for his nation. He had to get away from here as this house reminded him of your harsh death and it saddened him to depression. He was only a living corpse at home. I was the one to suggest him this post.''
I asked for my mother's strength while Kenneth slept in my lap, finally soothed.
After some time, I sensed a glow, a beautiful light emancipating in front of me. There clothed in a commander's uniform, stood my husband smiling yet perplexed of his surroundings.
The moment he saw his first wife, tears filled his eyes and he hugged her; asking for forgiveness for not being able to save her. He filled her with the rays of his love, making her beautiful once more. Her heart was now restored. She was the only woman he loved with his heart and soul.
They melted away together, leaving me alone with my only son. The terrible massacre was finally over. And, as always, love has triumphed over the evil emotions of a dead mother.
