She had accepted her seclusion with quite ease- no approval, no rejection. She knew very well she wouldn't receive any. Any proposal. Who would like an already blind to become his bride, who wouldn't be able to admire his beauty, his handsome body, his house he would spend so much toil to decorate, over the days, hours spent together?
She was engaged, but then it broke, when suddenly a catastrophic accident made her lose her eyes, lose the light of life forever, to leave her as well as her life in bleak darkness forever. She was now a soul perhaps only a mother could love.. Or did she too do it for she felt bad for her? Guilt in her hidden for giving her birth, she wasn't adorned with beauty and wealth, yet they had made an arrangement for her marriage. But it was broken.
She sat alone in the darkest corner of the room, illuminated by perhaps a dim light- she didn't know. No matter how much she used to be afraid ofte dark, now they were her comrades she couldn't give up. She held the note her sister just handed her- "The language is Braille. You can rad it yourself!" Had she said.
She tore the envelope slowly, touching it to make sure she wasn't tearing the actual paper, wherein the note was supposed to be.
Surpizes had always made her excited, but she knew all were in vain. No matter how much she tried to attempt to come over the permanent blindfold, she couldn't. She was trapped, forever.
HOW despapately she wanted to peek into the note- see it's colour- whether it was red, or blue, or white, or plain cream, were hearts all pasted or the shapes she could feel were of butterflies, and crystals, or a girl in a gown, waiting for the groom who would slid a ring on her fingers and ask, "Will you marry me?"
Ahh. If only she were alright. She would be married by now.
She was tired of rejection, denial, first because of her looks, and now all possibilities were over.
Tears fell over, as she managed herself to be strong and emotionless again.
She knew she was now a burden forever, for everyone in the house. Frequent discussions over her future, only frequented the pain.
She felt the letters,
"I was going to marry you, marriage delayed due to my visits
to the Hospital to arrange a treatment for you. Now it's all
confirmed. Shall come soon to tell you when is it.
Wanted to surprise you a bit. I loved you, Saarah, can't
just leave you 'cz you're handicapped. You've lost the light
of your life doesn't mean I too want to lose my light of
my life this way. Forget what has happened, all would soon
be as it was. On this Valentine's Day, I propose you with a
lifetime to be spent together. I want to confess that being
away from you can't be what I desire.
Will you marry me?"
and below it, she felt a tiny box, with a ring inside.
She couldn't see what the colour of the ring was, and she wasn't excited about it too. She knew her beau would soon make her view all those lost colours again, and will marry her only when she would be able to see how the ring looked like..
