The other day I was listening to Baba O’Riley by The Who, the song which I stumbled upon while watching House M.D. (another one of my obsessions) and I happen to go through the comments on the video on YouTube. I was stunned to see someone (while I guess he had a similar sounding username as well: P) compare The Who with One Direction.
Personally I don’t have any vendetta against the boy (read Gay) band but seriously comparing the one of the greatest rock songs of the century by an equally great band to a band which is commercially built to cater to the needs of young girls/boys with oozing estrogen. (I particular left out the male counterpart of the hormone as I guess whosoever listens to them lacks it!) I am not entirely alien towards the music of this generation but comparing a band which has been a benchmark of music for last 50 years to a band which has been in existence for a few years and has been a success for a fewer years is just plain stupid. Also people move from these bands like faster than they even change the undies they own. In comes a better looking set of boys with a deeper pocketed boss and the in trash goes the previous one.
I wallow when I listen to the songs of the bygone era, especially those from the British Invasion. I feel myself to be in my true sole. It just feels perfect. I am by no means an authority on music neither do I like to impose my choice of music on anyone else, but whenever someone comes around poking saying that this particular rapper just made the best song ever or that new boy band has such a sexy lead singer and sings so good (even when he has an obnoxious voice and The AUTOTUNE does all for him) it throws me off my guard. It rubs on to my scruples and shakes my inner conscience to the core. Makes me dead to the beat. But I seldom react to such situation with chagrin. I just keep the resentment to myself and move on.
I too listen to music of our era. I wouldn’t like to go into the specific of that as I like to keep my music to myself.(Isn’t that kind of makes me an ass! or just a narcissist, I couldn’t care less. ) but I hate how people despise the wonderful composition of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan (I like this guy’s lyrics, they are just too good!) and many more (pardon me of sounding too clichéd here!) and go about publicizing the music of new boy bands (no name calling here, wouldn’t want to get into any kind of trouble). But as someone has said you can’t control what someone listens to (or something similar I don’t remember the exact phrase) I listen and move on.
Move on to another of the Beatles classic or to a psychedelic rock of Pink Floyd and put on loop back and listen to it until I fall asleep!

And also people go about defending their weird choice of music.
