The story starts with the FALLEN ANGELS thrown out of heaven.
By that sin, fell the Angels and some of them decided to befriend the sea and stay there. The sailors feared them and soon they become known as the BLUE MEN. They built their dwelling amongst magic of the deep sea, from slavery, pain and the agonies of other lesser sea creatures.
Just bordering the new realm of the blue men was the fabled kingdom of the FINFOLK. They were mysterious shape shifters of the sea, often taking the shape of half-human and half-fish. They were excellent craftsmen and had palace with massive crystal hallways, gardens with multi-colored sea-weed, moving curtains and at night the whole kingdom was lit by the glow of tiny sea creatures.
The kingdom was protected from mortal eyes. But the blue-men weren’t mere mortals. And when angels go bad, they are worse than anyone else. As time went by, both the realms were on the brink of a war.
Just above these troubled waters, was an ancient island with magical nature called Avalon. It was ruled by nine enchantresses. Most of the people who lived here were blessed with the art of sorcery. On one full-moon night, an enchanted boat washed ashore. The people found four babies on the hull of the boat. Soon fog around the sea-coast turned light blue and a beautiful lady emerged from the water. She was none other than the wish granter herself, known among the people as ‘the lady of the lake’. She told them that those babies would change the course of Avalon.
People of Avalon named the three boys as Gerald, Henry and Edward and the girl as Orabelle, who was as beautiful as the sea-coast. With the passing time, the three boys became the greatest of warriors and the finest of sorcerers Avalon had ever seen. They had just one weakness, love of all their lives, Orabelle. The whole island would sing in appreciation of their friendship. But Orabelle was quite envious of her friends and would often be sad as she neither had any special skill nor could she perform sorcery.
It is said that sadness flies away on the wings of time but it only grew deeper for Orabelle. On one fateful full-moon as Ora sat under the glittering hood of night on the seacoast, the fog around her turned light blue and she saw a lady emerge from the water. As she went closer to the woman, she felt as if an ounce of cheerfulness had overtaken her pound of sadness. The women was none other than ‘the lady of the lake’ herself. Orabelle had been granted a wish by the ‘lady’ and without much thinking Ora said,
I wish I wish with all my heart
To gain power over the divine sight
Making me able to penetrate through future’s Wight.
Orabelle wished to see the future, but little had she known what plight it was going to bring upon her. After this Ora overcame all her sadness except the fiery sadness called DESIRE. Soon she became so powerful by her ability to see the future that whole of Avalon became cautious of her. She was so drunk in her new found power that she lost herself to pride and conceit.
The news of the new oracle couldn't be hid from the depths of the sea. Orabelle and her friends were placed in an enchantment to breathe underwater and were sent to help the Finfolks in the war. With the help of three great warriors and Ora herself, it was becoming difficult for the blue-men to keep up in the fight. Every monster they sent had been defeated.
But, in the process of defeating those monsters, Orabelle herself became a monster. Blinded by greed and pride, she joined the blue-men. Soon the tides turned and the fallen ones were definitely winning. Orabelle’s quest for power darkened her sense of right and wrong. Soon she issued a prophecy that the blue-men would be defeated by three warriors. As there were no warriors in the whole region greater than Gerald, Henry and Edward, she put the lives of her loved ones in jeopardy. The blue-men tried a lot to kill the trio, but in vain. So they cast an ancient spell upon them, which made them good as good as the living dead.
Orabelle came back to her senses after this incident, but it was too late. The only people who loved her were gone. She roamed every nook and corner of Avalon begging for help. But no one knew how to disenchant the spell. One day as she sat n the sea-coast, with her eyes filled of guilt and mind by remorse, she tried to summon the ‘lady’. After several periods of time, the ‘lady’ finally appeared. Ora pleaded her to break the spell and to this the ‘lady’ told that only Orabelle could break the spell by mending the bond she had torn by her pride. The only thing that could mend it was sacrifice.
The very first tear Orabelle shed was so deep that it went right through the hearts of the people of Avalon. They had forgiven her. But she knew that neither the blue-men nor the Finfolks would leave her and her people in peace. The word ‘sacrifice’ kept on echoing in her mind. She was about to try what she had never done before. Orabelle, through the sacrifice of her ‘gift of sight’ broke the enchantment that bound her friends and finally by giving up her life force itself, bewitched the island of Avalon and hid it in a place unknown. In the future Avalon could be found only by the men of virtue. Thus Orabelle had mend the bond torn by her pride.
Orabelle had committed many mistakes by giving herself in the power of pride and conceit. But, in the end all that matters is TO DO THE RIGHT THING HOWEVER HARD AND IMPOSSIBLE IT MAY SEEM.
