Poor Posture and You: Not a healthy relationship
Good posture is important for a healthy lifestyle. It is considered a good social etiquette to sit up tall. Believe it or not, good body posture is beneficial for your body as it makes you look confident and avoid health complications such as spinal arthritis. Millions of people suffer from neck and back aches due to bad posture habits. Sitting hunched over the keyboard all day or standing in long queues leaves people with muscle pangs. We give some simple ways for you to practise proper posture .
One pillow, One person
Using too many pillows when sleeping can strain neck and back muscles. Whenever lying on your back, use one pillow to support your neck to avoid any unnatural bend in neck bone. Poor imbalance creates tension in the neck muscles, shoulders blades and leads to poor blood circulation.
Erect Neck, Firm Foot
Some you might have heard your teachers to sit straight and don’t slouch. You know what? They are right. A properly aligned spine helps in smooth mobility of muscles, bones and ligaments to perform normal daily chores. When standing keep your ears, shoulders, hips and knees in alignment to evenly divide weight whereas in sitting position keep your feet flat and hips as far back as possible.
Slouch Less, Breathe More
Breathing becomes difficult for people who slouch while sitting. You may not feel it but your body does. Diaphragm muscles have more freedom to expand when sitting straight or standing. Slouching or leaning makes breathing difficult as the lung muscles have to work harder thus decreasing your performance in everyday life and sports activities.
Protect you Joints
Good posture cannot improve your joints but can prevent their deterioration. A conscious effort to avoid slouching can protect the wear and tear of joints. Aligned spine ensures healthy joints and helps in keeping the natural curves of the body.
Good Posture, Confident You
Good posture improves your image. People who have good-posture look confident and self assured. It is an essential part of feeling great and live a longer and healthier life.
So whether you are exercising, having lunch, waiting for a bus or sitting at your desk practise good posture for a healthy living. Give time to your muscles to adjust to your new posture. Try using a footrest support at work. You will soon notice the benefits of the of standing and sitting correctly.
