Frustrations of an Indian teenager
“Hi! I am 19 and my life is f#$@ed up”. I think this is the standard line of any teenager. Not to discriminate or categorise but girls face way more problems than boys during their teens. They deal with various things and go through hell lot of hormonal changes. Weight issues, appearance problems, boyfriend troubles, study work load, sugary and bitchy friends and sweet little home. Not too much for a guy but nonetheless.
And hello when you are in India, the trouble multiplies. The elders call it the western influence, however I would say more like a ‘fitting-in’ .youngsters try to fit in the so called ‘cool gangs’. Actually how does one define these ‘cool gangs’ as in who decides who is ‘cool’ and who is not, how is the authority infested? Well these questions are frankly speaking never answered. You are either a part of this group or you are not. Over the past few years I have tried to figure out a few qualities one requires to be a part of such a group. Good looks work for some, others look for rich-spoilt brats splurging their wealthy parent’s assets, sometimes your sense of style seems to work as well and a dashing personality can never be a let-down. Personally I would never like to categorise or discriminate people based on their looks or appearance but our society spares none.
The great Indian society, doesn’t the name signify something itself. The grandness, the myths, the assumptions, the culture, the roots everything, along with it comes the ‘taana’ habit as well. Considered nowhere else in the world except here, Indians have a sense of hi-fi touch added to themselves from time unknown. Every person considers him/herself to be above the rest and naturally the best. A common problem seen in India. I wouldn’t shy from the fact that I belong to this same nation and am not ashamed of this, after all it is a part of our culture.
