Madam, would you like to have some champagne?
Yes, why not. I replied. And she came with a huge glass of champagne and roasted nuts in a plate. I saw the wine menu right in front of me, so be it Italian or French, every kind of wine was available for free.
"Madam, I am responsible for serving you tonight, let me know if you need anything", said the beautiful air hostess.
After half an hour, "Would you like to have a mattress and a pillow?" Seriously? A bed in aircraft!
Yes it was an Emirates flight: World's best airline. And I was upgraded to business class from the economy class.
It all started at the check in counter at Dubai airport, when lady at the desk was checking everyone's boarding pass. When my turn came, she simply replaced it. With a puzzled face, I asked her, "I specially selected those seats, why did you change it?" And she smiled and replied, " Because you have been upgraded to business class".
I resisted a bit, still thinking what just happened, totally unaware that this could happen.
And I was taken to a airbus different from the usual one. A more luxurious bus where we did not have to stand, which probably takes a shorter route to reach the airplane.
I ultimately reached my seat, looking in awe, still unable to digest what just happened. A wide seat with a big screen in front, a tablet with remote controls on the left side, number of buttons around me and a window with a nice view (no wings seen).
Finally, I realised the fact of being in a business class seat on an economy class ticket in a 7 hour journey of Emirates flying from Dubai to Frankfurt, Germany on the new years night.
Curious to see who sits next to me, I saw a German guy who came with a smiling face and took the next seat. We shook hands and started talking. He started telling me the fun of travelling via business class. He was also upgraded from economy, so I did not have to act elite!. "Expect a gift in a while", he said. In a few minutes, air hostess came with a travelling purse full of expensive things in it. We started talking and exploring all the fancy buttons on our seat.
In a few hours, I was laying in my bed watching movie after movie on a huge screen, enjoying nice food on a big table and relishing the fact of being 35000 feets above the ground.
The best and most comfortable flights I have ever experienced. A perfect new years night spent with loads of fun, all thanks to Emirates and people overbooking the flight!
