In the continent of Africa, exist lots of dangerous but fascinating animals. Some have such a negative reputation that they are constantly on the chase by humans, while others prefer not to tango with humans, but are very aggressive. Among them is the Mozambique Spitting Cobra...
Native to Africa and found usually near areas where there is water, Mozambique Spitting Cobra is one of the most common snakes in the savannas. It also prefer coastal forests, rocky slopes and sometimes takes shelter in termite mounds(which is a natural "A/C" system).
At 90-105 com long, it is arguably the smallest species of cobras. It is of Olive to black in color from above and has a grey, pale brown or sometimes pinkish color on the ventral side. The body is cylindrical in shape. The neck and throat has a mixture of black bars and spots.
This species of snake is quite nervous. In case of an encounter, they will rear up up to two third of their bodies, spread their hood and defend themselves by "spitting" venom on the face of its predator(with admirable accuracy), sometimes at a distance of 2-3 meters. If the venom made contact with the eyes, it may cause permanent blindness if not washed immediately.
This cobra also bite, though it depends on the situation and environment. It's diet consists mainly on small mammals, lizards and birds, and sometimes other snakes. It attacks and holds the prey in its mouth. If it escapes, the cobra hunts it again and bite continuously.
The Mozambique spitting cobra is widely considered as the second most dangerous after the black Mamba.
