We know how much hype Linkin park gets in India. So here is a track by track review of their spanking new album “Living things”. Living Things combines elements from their previous four studio albums to create a new sound.
1. Lost in the echo: *****
A nice blend of the Meteora, Minutes to midnight days and the quite different A Thousand Suns. The lyrics indicate towards broken promises and a failed relationship. The Shinoda- Chester duo alternating from rap to rock is superb as always.
2. In my remains: ****
It seems to describe a post apocalyptic world; the music is quite different from any of their other songs. The lines, “like an army falling one by one” have an amazing effect on the song.
3. Burn it down: ***
The song has quite an electronic sound to it. It focuses on rediscovering of music or it could be about an on and off relationship.
4. Lies greed misery: ****
The song starts with a soft tone but is followed by Shinoda rapping and Bennington screaming “I wanna see you choke on your lies”. The whole song is about putting someone in their place which gives the song a powerful feel.
5. I’ll be gone: ***
This song is a nice mix of “Leave out all the rest” and “What I’ve done”. The lyrics are quite repetitive which makes you feel like you are hearing the same song over and over again.
6. Castle of glass: *****
This song in “Living Things” wins the “Best lyrics” title hands down. It flows smoothly and the line “Cause’ I am only a crack in this castle of glass” might just make you shiver.
7. Victimized: **
It is the shortest song (with lyrics) in the album and doesn’t have much appeal to it.
8. Roads Untravelled: ****
It is a sweet ballad which is backed by what seems like piano and xylophonic sounds. The lyrics are quite poetic.
9. Skin to bone: **
It seems like it is a mixup of words and the refrain kind of kills the spirit of the song.
10. Until it breaks: ***
The rap reminds of “When they come for me” from the album ATS. The best part of the song is the soft chorus in the end.
11. Tinfoil: ****
It doesn’t have any lyrics though the music has a techno feel to it and seems to be a prologue for the next song in the album, “Powerless”.
12. Powerless: *****
Powerless is the last song in the album which is far from least. In fact it is one of the best song in the whole album, lines like “You held it all and I was by your side, powerless” and “Ten thousand ways to lose” just make the song more amazing.
Final Verdict: ****
“Living things” is a great album and is quite an improvement after “A thousand suns”. The album is worth listening again and again. It is not the best work of Linkin park but it is definitely one of the best.
