The festive mood is on. People can be seen enthusiastic for the upcoming event. Happy cheerful children relived of studies running around . Such a happy picture. But are things really that happy ? Not talking about the social and cultural insecurity among the various group, I would like to share something quite different.
With the puja pandal nearby, I nearly spend my whole day hearing regular chanting of mantra and religious songs played at full volume ,trying to understand what the pandit is trying to chant and what the religious songs actually mean. Teribbly failing the exercise the only thing that I actually could recognize was the use of that the music of the bollywood song “chinta ta tita” , “ odhni odh ke naachu a song from tere naam” and similar others.
So, it is wrong to have bollywood music in religious songs. I guess No, but what’s wrong in selecting music from any bollywood religious songs or any patriotic songs. Why was music of songs like “ lakshya, Aas pass hai khuda or Aashayien khule dil ki” got rejected. Is it because the music selection done on the basis of popularity of songs or maybe even songs with music from the above mentioned songs are available but not yet played in my locality.
Puja comes every year , within this time frame we get to hear thousands of new bollywood songs . So why no religious songs with its own originality? Why are songs with copied music played? Why can’t the songs played be clear with the message it is expected to deliver to the people? So, why are the people listening to such songs and not even protesting? Is it because neither the music composer is concerned nor are the people concerned. People are celebrating puja without understanding the meaning lying within, songs are being played without even caring about the content? So why is it so.
Maybe it’s because people have lost their passion . They have lost their interest in religious activities. Money factor gives them more pleasure than social and religious cause. Maybe it’s because people are so busy in their life that they never cared to listen or understand what is being played. Or is it because people have got into the habit of accepting whatever they are served with. They have learnt to adjust and compromise with all situation. They are just concerned with their so called “happy life” and other people are busy taking advantage of the situation , deriving the most from all the situation at the lowest possible cost.
