When I wore a south indian sari, for the first time...I peeped at myself nervously in the mirror...I noticed a lean, fair and brown doe eyed female staring back at me...who looked pretty much like my mom in the old pictures..it was a striking resemblance...whether my own mom recognized it or not, as she was tired from spinning the sari around me.When I went to college that morning, I was laughed at for wearing my sari too neatly or decently, some even told i look unattractive and rather let me phrase in a euphemism "with less glamor or none at all",with almost all the people who said this being women...I didn't retort, though. That's when someone said "Hey,it's college and you have dressed up looking like some Indira Gandhi".The words were like a trigger to my mouth that sent out the words,"Well, for some of us people like her and me,modesty is more important, because our mother's actually raised up WOMEN".And oh well, then I got the usual silent and gaping reaction.

A rather sexist comment from a woman, shouldn't make you proud!
If you were mentioning certain section of women, maybe a better choice of words that left no room for doubt of your insinuation should have been used.
Whatever, truth is, dignity saved, mom's ethics came handy, and friends turned mum. You won that moment. Enjoy!
