Iris is a flower which attracts butterflies whereas orchid flowers do not have nectar, that is why they kind of repel them.
_________
There was once this iris
surrounded by flowers of orchids
it wasn't the most sublime flower in this world
but had a charm that only it could hold,
For it was an oasis for the butterflies
during their hard times
as they flew over the insipid orchid flowers
among which, was one diuris.
Charming was iris, but also cold
towards all butterflies except one
who would come from far away
just to rest its drowsy wings over its petals and get fired up again
Diuris watched them both keenly
jealous of their beautiful bond
but never did it blame iris for being so heavenly
neither itself for being ordinary.
This went on for a couple of days
but so suddenly ended when iris became cold again
the butterfly with a broken heart
slowly danced away
Diuris feeling sorry for it
sang with it the song of pain
the butterfly always flew by iris
thinking it would open again
but the day never seemed to come
and it was too tired to wait
because the friends butterfly had were none
except for the long lost charming one
The butterfly to pass its time
stayed with diuris
as it talked about the kind of love
it felt for its beloved
time seemed to pass faster
when it was with diuris
the butterfly, in fact,
had found a new companion.
Then during a dark day
it came and sat on diuris
did so to show its gratefulness
spread its wings over her petals
as if it had mistaken it for iris
but the moment so unusual was spoiled by the rains
and the butterfly without another word flew away.
For the orchid flowers who thought of Diuris as the fortunate one,
were surprised to see her fume with rage.
"I'm not disheartened by the fact that
when iris opens up, he'll never return again
but because he has committed a sin of giving me hopes
when there were none, in vain."
The butterfly came again, hoping to see its beloved friend
only to find diuris closed up and never open again.
