Centuries have come, and centuries have gone, but our plight in our country does not seem to change. Is it because we are seen as a possession or an item instead of a human being. I don’t know!
Time has helplessly watched us suffering in the form of discrimination, oppression, exploitation, degradation, aggression, humiliation. We are supposed to have occupied importance in Vedas, but what I ask is not any worship but respect and equality.
We have been subjected to what not, yet at times we keep quiet, not that we are weak, it is just to avoid humiliation or maybe protect ourselves from further harm. We are vulnerable at times, I do agree, but we have a stronger will and intellectual power than you possess. Yeah, do you know who I am?
I am your mother who gave birth to you, I am your sister who protected you from bullies in the school and shared everything I had, I am your wife, your better half, and I am your daughter who idolizes you. But before that don’t you forget, I am a woman.
I am woman, but dear men, this is what I want to tell you.
Dear men,
Respect and honour every women in your life. I agree, human desires needs to be satisfied, but raping women is a crime and disgrace to your existence. She maybe a prostitute, but don't you dare rape her, because you have no right to. Before you even think of eve teasing a girl walking on the road, think what you would have done if that girl were your own mother, sister or wife, this may sound harsh, but would have broken the other man’s bones for doing such a thing. Punishment’s the same for everyone, so I suggest if you don’t want to break your bones don't eve tease or molest. Because this time, it will be the women folk who will be breaking your bones. And to all the policemen out there, every girl that comes to the station, please treat them with something called compassion and don’t aggravate their already existing unbearable pain, I demand it not request it. And for all those god men and politicians who think ladies with miniskirts or tight dresses attract men, then I would say that is why the institute of marriage exists. And if you see any incidents of crime against women, please open up, don’t turn a blind eye on the brutalities.
There exist also crime against women by women. Shocked? Don’t be.
So to all those women,
Dear women,
Don't treat another woman as a rag doll, because she isn't one. All of us are born human, so empathy and compassion is the least one could expect.
The least I could say is I am a woman, and your freedom ends at the tip of my body.

P.S. Take a look at the corporate world
This is for the above comment.
Well written, author.
Don't take it personally, Arpit :)
This is what I've seen with a lot of guys. Not directed towards you.
Your birthright should have have been given the day you were born. But illusionary assertion of rights by ignorining current reality is big deception. Accept it or not ytou live in a patriarchal society who wants subjugation of women at some level.
Let me give u a case. Indian men don't understand the virtue of chauvinism.
So when 20 something girl asks a 40 something man in a bus to stand and get up because it is a 'reserved'seat for females, weakness or perception of weakness starts there. Why do yo energetic young girls need a seat when men don't. That isn't asserting equality. Equality stems from tiny little things until a big hill of perception deems it obsolete.
India wasn't free. They did fight for it. BLACKS fought for civil rights. Women should too.
And why did author put a eeping woman's picture as display pic. Do you want our pity or charity? I say replace the pic that send you are not the woman who cries in kitchen when scolded or beaten. Instead you shout and kick back to take what's yours.
This is a big fat truth of women today. They cry and stand back. Maybe you do not. But millions of women if seen display the inherent character of weakness through wailing and crying. And it all exists in our present.
This faux -feminism is absurd. All the people in a bus are equally tired after work or during their journey. It is unreasonable to ask (for a woman of age I mentioned) to ask as such.
That is why reservations seekers are called the weaker sections of the society. Your support for reservation makes your stand for positions legal but does not warrant respect from many.
In fact, I myself get up to offer my seat to anyone in need, irrespective of who it is.
As far as reservation is concerned, it was introduced because there was no participation of women because of reasons best known to all of us. To encourage and strengthen their stand. And if you think this is the so called empowering the weaker sex then be it. Because somewhere things need to start from. For those who think women are the weaker sex, then at least they will start considering them as equals after this. Though the chances are close to none.
Also, only a few men get up to offer seats. And if it is reserved for me, then I'll ask for it. The rest of the seats are available for men to sit.
I live in Delhi. Metro carries only a quarter of daily commuters compared to buses.
I applaud your effort of giving a seat to the needy. Girls/Women en masse need to learn that.
Want equality? Stop being that person who shows weakness at every corner. Stop asking for it and fight. Stop begging for it and earn. Stop weeping if denied and rebel. These mushy words won't get you your freedom back.
