Today morning I was waiting in a queue outside an HDFC branch ATM to withdraw money. Suddenly the guy who was already in informed that someone had forgotten his blackberry there. We tried to locate him around but as we hadn't seen him properly, we couldn't find him. The guy who had found the missing phone started looking for the security guard to hand over the phone to him.
Being little doubtful about the security guard, I suggested to try the last dialed number if there was no password check to unlock the phone. After trying 2-3 numbers, he could connect to someone who could further inform. There was one more girl who didn't bother much and left the place. I also thought to leave as the guy who had found the phone was waiting though he was inquiring around if he can hand over the phone to security guard or nearby HDFC bank.
At that moment, I realized how a missing phone of a stranger had made me alert to react. I wondered how many hypocrite people simply switch off such phones and keep it with themselves to sell it later. Well, because I had lost phone in past and I knew the bitter feeling, I could sense the discomfort the owner of phone may feel.
Also, I realized how a small incident had suddenly made two strangers ( me and the guy who had found the phone ) get into interaction. Before leaving, I waved BYE to that guy feeling inappropriate to leave him alone to suffer.
On returning from HDFC bank after 10-15 minutes, I found the guy still waiting for the owner of the phone. Seeing me, he asked me to keep the phone and hand over it to the owner as he needs to leave for Gurgaon. Honestly, I didn't want to take the responsibility thinking what if the guy didn't turn up and I’m left with the phone. This was one of the most unexpected possibility which clicked me. Who will not turn back after loosing his costly phone ? .. Ha ha
Anyhow, while discussing all this, the owner turned up and took over the phone. He thanked for taking the responsibility. The guy who had found the phone waved me thanks like a known friend and left too.
Though I didn't play any part in this incident but being a victim, I could sense a peaceful feeling in my heart and then only, I decided to pen down this incident.
Modern generation has made us selfish and suspicious to every strange thing that happens around … from doubting the hypocrisy of a beggar to every charitable trust or in fact post shares on face book.
Still, HUMANITY SURVIVES, may be in tiny proportions but enough to make us realize .. We should play our part of honestly whenever possible not for others but for the same selfishness to make ourselves realize … we are Human Beings :-)
