Part-I
“Hush!... Hark!.... I hear.
Rattling wheels on the old road, rushes here”
“Hark! I hear again!
Steadfast horses pulverize dead stones in the rain.”
Sipping some wine she listened again and in a keyed up tone declared:
“Gates flung open, no guards on watch.
Cold welcome often leaves scars on soul.
Quick honey, approach the door.
No manners in making friend a foe.”
Long stare at him but she could not decide, was it reluctances or something else in his eyes.
“Appreciate those who value time but in a parties like these, guest always arrive on time.
Come honey follow my lead. Let’s open the door and pay our heed."
As she moved swiftly to greet, hindering her purpose he softly speaks:
“Halt love, I hear none. No more carriage; gates are firmly shut.
All the invitees enjoy inside, no more expected on this night.
Subdue thou thoughts it’s just wine play with your mind.
Leave unreal afar and join the feast,
Foods on the table and famished I feel.”
Perhaps the smoke and liquor played its game but who could be sure, for time sways it all away.
Part-II
The skeletal moon stayed behind dark clouds,
making chandelier and candles burn more bright.
Feast for thousand, but only some hundred to dine,
Upon silver lay delicacies with copious wine.
Music and laughter filtered the smoke,
flirting with neighbor raised jealousy to something more.
And even among this all she felt cold…a cold so cold that even her words showed.
[Knock! Knock!]
“The door!” she listened again. “Nothing but rain, wine’s tricking my brain.”
The third knock followed thunder and horror,
making knock louder and last longer.
Bang! Bang! Bang!...her head pained.
“Nothing but rain, wine’s tricking my brain.”
A bang… and a bang!... and a bangaty! bang! bang!...
“Nothing but rain, wine’s tricking my brain.”
A Bang on the door and on window,
a bang on the table and here-there and everywhere.
She looked at him and then at her, all were happy and in deep talks.
“Nothing but rain, wine’s tricking my brain.” she told herself but bangs
remained.
Part-III
With another thunder it all went down.
Only rain on platter… no other sound.
Suddenly, something moved beside her left ear.
Whispering, “Why didn't you approach the door on time?
No manners in making friend a foe”
“Love, You alright?”
Controlling her fear she smiled but the chill still ran down her spine.
“Don’t worry love, I heard it this time but nothing to worry I am here, always by your side.
It's nothing but rain, wine’s tricking our brain.”
