On one tiring afternoon, I decided it was a very hot day and was better if I took an AC bus to reach my home from college. With my heavy bag and so many charts in my hand, I finally boarded the bus I wanted to avoid- to the area of Najafgarh- though it was an AC bus, the buses to Najafgarh were generally crowded. I had been waiting since half an hour in the stand, and thought it would be wise not to wait any longer. No matter what, the motive was only to reach on time!
I wished there were gentlemen seated on the ladies seats so that they would respectfully offer me the seat seeing my pitiable condition, and hoping so, I entered it. Of course, there was a man seated, middle aged, grumpy and weird with fearful looks, his wife besides me, staring at me. I could not gather the guts to ask him for the seat. When I had two strong legs, and am still young, why remove every damn man from woman's seat? I just asked if he could hold my heavy purse and chart holder for me to have some ease standing up for an hour... he rejected my pleas.
Few stops crossed as a lady barged in.
"Bhaisaab uth jao!" she said in a harsh tone.
The man pretended as not to listen and folding his arms, he rested his head over them. The woman kept on poking his shoulders and telling him to get up, but the man seemed too arrogant.
"I will get down soon. No need to tell me it's ladies seat."
"Get down when?"
"Soon."
Half an hour passed. He did not get down. The woman nudged him again and he didn't say anything.
"You didn't get down." She said.
"My wish."
The lady besides him also behaved in the same arrogant manner.
"My husband is ill."
As soon as she said so, the man faked a cough, which was more of exaggeration. All throughout my journey, they both kept on arguing over the seat. It was finally my stop as I got down, enjoying the heated conversation inside.
There were two things I couldn't understand and was shocked to realise,
One, the woman who could stand with ease comfortably enjoying the AC, yet kept on arguing as if it was her father's seat! When so many other ladies were standing, why couldn't she?
and second, was the ill mannerism of the man, who didn't have the courtesy to offer the seat to the ladies standing up, or the respect to accept holding my luggage for my ease.
