Theme- Dreams and fantasies
It was a hot and crowded station. The noise and the bustling around was drawing her back into her own bubble. She felt dizzy after the exhaustion of her monotonous work and the heat was getting to her head. Finally as a saviour, her train arrived. The ac and comfortable chair were drawing her to loosen herself and relax. Before she knew it, she was cut off from the world into a deep sleep.
Two hours later she woke up with a start. The train was still moving and people all around her were sleeping soundly. A couple beside her was making effective use of the silence and privacy. Adrenaline was rushing through her. She had one of the adventurous and crazy dreams she had been missing since a long time. Now that she thought about it, it was a wild rather than adventurous one.
She had been standing in front of a boy in a castle. She tried to speak to him but the boy either couldn't hear him or was indifferent. Marvellously, he was in another world while she was in a world of picturesque frames. She could hop from one to the other and play around but in no way could she go into the world of the boy. She could just observe him, communicating was no use. She found out that the boy had an ugly scar on his forehead. Vivid red and shaped as a lightning bolt. He was also a wizard like the people of her photo world. There were many others but she had made the most effort observing him...
What followed was the famous Harry Potter series that has left a livid impression on every mind who has dared to go near its world. Yes, Harry Potter is a world in its own today. He was J K Rowling's claim to fame. When she chose to pen down her dream she may not have intended to publicise it. She may have just wanted to live the dream more fully. But we all know what followed. Apart from making her realise her dream of becoming a millionare it fulfilled the fantasies of many teenagers who acted in the movies too. For they wont be forgotten with the sands of times. They will live on in the heart of every person who sees Harry Potter.
Similar but less popular is the story of the Twilight saga. Stephenie Meyer had the idea of a vampire thirsting for the blood of his sole love and the human girl thirsting for the vampire, from a dream too. Her fortune was changed overnight by that dream. She had woken up with the dream intact and wrote the plot down in case she forgot about it later. Her dream and her franchise now rival JKR's.
There are many other examples thriving in this world. 'Inception' makes one wonder how important can their dreams be. As depicted in the movie, you are the most open and vulnerable in your dreams. You express your inner hidden self in them. Any access to another person's dream is like assaulting his privacy. Another famous example is Christopher Paolini. He started reading fantasy books at the age of ten but wanted something more inspiring to be written. While fantasising about it, he thought of the Eragon series (the inheritance cycle) in a trance. Those who have read it would know its potential to move thou.
For some people, dreams are all they live upon. Whether it's as obvious as making money, or fantasizing about marrying a girl, or dreaming upon becoming a great sportsperson someday, we all have our dreams for life. Some of us just love it when they dream at night. It may be haphazard but we always try to sort it out. But not many of us have the vim and vigour to chase down those big dreams of ours. We have just too many excuses to forget about them with time. Those who do, finally make it to eternal bliss. Some make it to glory like the famous authors, some to tremendous internal satisfaction. But those people only make a small portion.
People are what their aspirations make them. And those come from dreams, trances, fantasies and inspirations. Our lives may be defined by some random dream of ours or life may define our dreams. JKR and others like her didn't choose to have that life. It was just blessed onto them by their dreams. Our fantasies may include sex, sports or fame. What creates us is how we choose to go about them. Whether we chase them or let go and join the crowd. the choice is always ours. Dream on, make it big!
