‘ She stuffed herself in the prettiest Little Black Dress she could find, put on makeup by the best brands she knew in a precisely calculated amount and slipped into the highest heels she could afford walking in without tripping’ – Only to be ‘Beautiful’ .
I know so many such girls in my life who have once been this she and at some points I have been one of them. But they were not always like this. They once believed in Coco Chanel’s ‘Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself’ and wore it on their sleeve as if it was their life’s anthem. They thought it was perfectly Okay if you get up in the morning and your hair looked like Einstein just got out of three day’s sleep at a stretch. They believed choosing baggies over dresses and sneakers over heels would not make them any less beautiful to the world just the way it did not to them.
To all such women who have ever been this she, this is what I strongly want to say to you:
No matter how many times they tell you that you are beautiful for who you are they will never believe in it themselves. The color of your skin will always be more important than the twinkle in your eye. The chocolatiness of your skin will never be as appealing as the fair and lovely snow ‘whites’ around you. You will always be judged and rated for not the smile that you wear but the clothes that you’ve put on. Your curves and the fit of your apparel around them will always decide your levels of desirability. Women around you, your friends and foes will invariably scan you from head to toe and turn into an invisible green-eyed-monster every time you manage to garner more attention than them. Every time you put on few noticeable grams you will be called nothing but FAT. Your beauty will always be about how perfectly your hair stays in place, how luscious your lips can look covered in all shades that mankind knows and how pretty you can look made-up under uncountable layers of makeup. If you can manage to wear the most little dress with highest pair of heels, be sure of turning heads and being drooled over.
And just before you choose to be this kind of beautiful, take some time out to think about this:
When you were a little girl, your mommy and daddy always told you that you were beautiful even if the color of your bow did not match your dress . Even today, when you have grown up, you will be their little and the most beautiful daughter. Over the years they saw you go through everything. They saw you when you had swollen eyes and a running nose and even when you looked your prettiest. But did that ever change what they think of you? Were you ever judged? It is for people like them that you should TRY to be beautiful and not the world. And when you realize this you will know you are ALWAYS beautiful to them without any trying. You were not born to please everybody or just anybody. Trying to be a perfectly-in-place- Barbie might get you three digit likes on facebook and some admirers who would love you for the clothes and not the skin you’re in. So is that what you want?
Do you want to be looked at and noticed or rather remembered? That is the choice to make. You will be beautiful to the right kind of people when you stop trying to be pretty to the wrong ones. Your friends should not love you for your perfectly manicured nails but for the absolutely ridiculous fun you can be. They should not love you for how well you line your eyes but for how you can share a good laugh after you rub them without realizing that your mascara had not dried. The Man who deserves YOU should not love you for how perfectly your hair fall at your shoulder and are pinned to your scalp. He should love you for how a cold breeze tangles your locks. He should love you not for how perfect you look every single day but how perfectly passionate you are about your dreams. He should love you not for the size you are but the amount of love that you are willing to give. He should love you despite all the extra Kilos you put on because FAT can never be worse than vindictive, jealous, shallow, vain, boring or cruel.
You my dear were not made to be pretty to the eyes. You are God’s piece of art. And ART is never supposed to be pretty. It is supposed to make you feel something. Every time you make somebody smile when they are having difficult times, you are beautiful. Every time your eyes twinkle when you think about something you love passionately, you are beautiful. Every time you can laugh till your stomach hurts and cry without worrying about your mascara, you are beautiful. And every single time you believe that you are your only admirer whom you need to please, you are beautiful.
You are flesh and bone and emotions with a lot of sparkle in your blood, don’t let the race of being a well-kept-plastic-Barbie dull your shimmer. :)
