India is at the threshold of celebrating yet another year of being independent. But I wonder, are we really free?
Recently, I watched a scene in the movie 'V for Vengence'. One particular part struck me, affected me and affirmed my belief. The ever gorgeous Natalie Portman(though she's bald in this scene) reads a letter... A letter from a woman named Valerie. According to Valerie "I shall die here. Every inch of me shall perish, every inch..but one. An inch, it is small and fragile and it is the only thing in the world worth having. We must never lose it or give it away. We must never let them take it from us."
We take our freedom for granted. We have lost the perspective of being free. The "Them" in the letter could be anything or anybody. The government, friends, relatives and even the ones we love the most.
I believe that freedom is the ability to know that one small, fragile inch within each of us. To respect that inch and treasure it...For that inch makes you who you are and no one or nothing can value it more than yourself....
