Theme: Those who did not make it : To their dream of an independent India
AND THEN THERE WERE NONE
They came from the wildest race imaginable,
And certainly seemed unaccepted in our world so stable.
Wild, dirty creatures we called them,
Compared to human beings, they weren’t certainly the same.
We knew how to deal with men like Gandhi,
Who were peaceful and gentle but manly.
But these beasts were certainly far-fetched
We felt they were destined to be beaten up with the rest.
We, being the Whites, were always ignorant,
And I was sometimes bewildered to watch my colleagues so arrogant.
For beasts or not, they were human beings,
Who had their own insights into the ongoing seeings.
And I, the White Commander, supposed to be ruthless,
Was moved by something I earlier took as hopeless.
For these men come with a vigour greater than any king,
These Sukhdev, Azad, Rajguru and Bhagat Singh.
The fire in their eyes glaring
Did everything which was utmost daring.
They believed in freedom as their sole goal,
And accomplished everything by braving their roles.
These accomplishments even included murder of a powerful White,
They killed the minister and went into a hide.
But behold their bravery so singular,
For they turned themselves in, as though we couldn’t catch them sirs!
So wrong I was! Their motto was to arouse the whole nation.
By doing something which would be a sensation.
On ‘capturing’ them, we beat ’em up like wild strays
They responded by going on a hunger strike for 114 days!!
Their blood flowed recklessly, to do something erstwhile,
Yet they continued their fast like Indians wild.
To me, they seemed like they had swallowed the sun.
But the Whites gave them a hang-till-death order
AND THEN THERE WERE NONE!!!
