It was recently my farewell in college and it was quite obvious that we clicked pictures. So today I happened to put a photo as my Whatsapp DP with a male friend of mine. I was pretty reluctant in putting such a photo as I belong to quite a conservative family and girls in my family are not expected to roam with guys or definitely not put pictures on the net. I really threw that thought into the dustbin and 'dared' to put his and my picture.
Instantly, my sister messaged me asking "Who is he?" I knew it had started, I didn't reply and avoided being online for some time so that she doesn't ask from me again.
later she came in my room while I was looking something on my phone and asked "Who's that guy?" I casually told her that he's just a friend. But she asked me to put it down, not knowing that I already had done that. Yet, I asked her the reason for it and she told me that we have relatives and they have my number so they can see this photo. I actually couldn't believe it as how does it even matter? I asked. She said it doesn't give a good impression.
I may ask if a guy puts a photo with a girl then there's no problem so why can't a girl do the same? it's obviously not the same for every family but why is there still such a conservative mentality towards this?
Why are we worried about what others think of us? Why do others still influence our actions? And why are we so scared of the society?
Not just in the matter of girls but also generally. I mean, to me it wouldn't even matter if a cousin of mine puts a photo with a girl or some boy or a horse or pig or even an elephant. then why are others so busy peeping in others lives and checking their whatsapp details and stalking FB?
Social media some times does annoy me to the core.
