Behind the row of books I saw her wearing a pink dress with her beautiful eyes scanning the pages of Love Story by Erich Segal . I walked over to her and said, "How can I help you?" She stared at me for a minute or two then said, "Excuse me?"

"I am Sam. I work here."

"Oh, how much for this book?"

"How much you want to pay for it?"

"Sorry?"

"Actually it is a charity store. Profit of every book sold here goes to charity. As you may have noticed there are no price tags on the book that is because we allow people to set price of the book they want to buy even if they just want to pay us a penny."

"That is so great. I will pay $300 for this if it's okay?"

"As you wish, thankyou."

After a week I saw her again turning the pages of a different book. This time she came right up to me as soon as she saw me.

"Hi", said she.

"Hi, how can I help you this time?"

"By letting me stay here till the rain stops", she said pointing towards the window.

"Oh well sure you can stay here as long as you like. You may even read some book to pass the time."

"You always behave like that or you are acting like that in front of me?"

I was taken aback by her question. It was true I had to maintain a professional image in front of customers but no one had previously asked me this question.

"Honestly only in front of you."

"Well then please will you put it aside for a time being and talk to me normally?"

I laughed at her request but agreed. I don't really remember how much time passed while talking to her but it was the most perfect talk I had with anyone in my whole life. We talked about our hobbies, our background, our career which I never thought of talking about with a girl ever. After we finished our talk she said,"It was nice talking to you Sam. I must leave now as rain has stopped and my parents will be really worried about me." I nodded and walked with her to the door.

"I still have one question?" I asked opening the door for her.

"What?"

"May I know your name?"

"You might find it on the last page of your diary."

She left me startled as I tried to reconstruct her words in my mind. It was no way what she said could be true. I walked over to my desk and opened the last page of my diary in which there was a letter...

Dear Sam

You may not recognise me but we had known each other for like ages. Before you met with an accident and had a brain injury I was there and I am still there with you always. Love you.

Yours
Alisha

Tears fell from my eyes as I read the letter. I really didn't remember her but I knew I did not reached the hospital all by myself on the night of my accident.
