AFTERLIFE
Do you believe in an afterlife. Many people in this world believe in an afterlife and many don't. Controversies have been going on for ages on this topic. I believe in afterlife but may be not in the same way others think. This post is about something you wouldn't have thought ever to consider as afterlife.
Have you ever wondered your heart can beat even after you are dead, your liver and kidneys could function after your death...many vital organs of your body can work after death.I am not talking about it in heaven or hell but here in this mortal world,on this earth...may be not in your own body but in someone else's who needs them more than you did.
Wouldn't this be a true afterlife where vital organs from your body can assimilate in life of a person, not just the person but his family too, whose happiness depends on that person..and if a soul exists nothing could be more fulfilling than this for a soul.
There is a myth about organ donation that, if a body is cremated devoid of an organ, then the person is born without those organs in next life. This social stigma which is totally a blind faith without any logic is the main constraining factor against cadaver organ donation in most part of world.Well who has seen a next life but organs once donated can be of great help to a lot of people in need,a donation which could change the life of a family. Taking a decision for this is hard for an individual as well as for a family, and that to in a time of grief. But if someone looks at it optimistically then nothing can be more fulfilling than saving so many lives.
Some facts about organ donation-
1.Organ donation is mainly of two types- Live organ donation and cadaver organ donation.
Live organ donation is totally a different issue for discussion.. but here i'd like to discuss about cadaver organ donation.
2.Eye donation(actually corneal transplant) from one individual can benefit at least two and at most four individuals. similarly kidney and liver transplant can be useful for at least two recipients each. Other vital organs which can be transplanted are heart, pancreas and lungs,
So, multiple organ donation from a single person can be useful for about 5-8 persons on an average.
3.About 35 hospitals in India accept cadaver organ donations, major of them being:
Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute, Chennai
Apollo Hospital, Chennai,
Christian Medical College, Vellore,
Sundaram Medical Foundation, Chennai
MOHAN (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) Foundation, Chennai
4.No organ donation is ever rejected even it is not fit for transplant due to any defect or transmissible infection,as it is a very hard decision for a family to opt for organ donation of their loved ones. These organs are taken for research work which is also an integral part of medicine.
5.Tissue may be recovered from donors who die of circulatory death, as well as of brain death – up to 24 hours past the cessation of heartbeat. Unlike organs, most tissues (with the exception of corneas) can be preserved and stored for up to five years, meaning they can be "banked".
I registered for multiple organ donation on Organ donation day this year on 6th of august and took an oath to donate all my vital organs after my death whenever it would be. I am persuading my family members for same..and i request all the Writerbabus to think about it and take a step ahead for we and our thoughts are what creates the present and future of this world.
