I had been wondering if we actually have any importance of this day left other than that in our calendars and I realized that we kind of do! For example when I switched on the television this morning, the DD channel was playing the "Desh Bhakti " songs, which was followed by three hour parade telecast. The other channels were no behind, their logos in the tricolor....
The Times Of India, today did not capture my interest much. But an article on the BLink of the Business Line, attracted me . It was a good read and put me into a thought.
I began evaluating myself. From class three to class six,I just waited for 26th January to participate in the patriotic singing competition and be a part of parade or a march past, which I just loved at that point of time.
As I started taking my history class seriously,I realized the importance and the meaning of national holidays, thanks to my school. I fell in love with Indian History (and had an urge to learn and understand various Indian languages).
As time passed, and as I got busy with studies and various other things,I just started looking for holidays, hoping all festivals and national holidays comes on a week day. When I saw my calender few days back I was cursing as of why Republic day should fall on a Sunday...
I used to tell my parents how judgmental we Indians are and even after 65 years we talk everything about rights, equality, politics and constitution but never about duties. of course, we do talk about what others duty is. But never ours.
For a change let us talk and realize our duties towards our nation and society. And as it is a Sunday why not start our homework!
Happy Republic day!
