What women want?

Probably the most difficult question of all times that has ever been raised- “What women want?”
I have observed (read: questioned) many women as to what they look for in a guy and I have prepared a short list of some of the characteristics of the ideal man of a “normal” woman.
No two women are the same. However, beneath the myriad shades of moods, temperaments, whims and fancies that set them apart, there runs a common strand that joins the whole lot of women. At the end of the day, all women crave more or less the same qualities in men.

So here it goes:

1. Chivalry
Who says chivalry is dead? The truth is that every woman likes to be treated well and special. Well who doesn’t want a guy who is well mannered, respects his lady (and other ladies too), pulls a chair for her (given that she knows he’s pulling it for her and not with an intention to let her fall on the floor!). A guy who gifts her flowers (not huge bouquets but just a bunch or just a single flower may also work) once in a while not every time (Life ain’t a Yash Chopra movie after all!)

2. Honesty
Honestly, this is the most important trait. No one, read no one (be it a guy or girl) likes to be lied to. Women are delicate and emotional creatures but they are also very intelligent. They know what, when and where you’re planning to go, planning to do etc. DO NOT DOUBLE-DATE! She may already know the answer yet she’ll ask it from you just to check how honest you are. Be honest with her, she can handle it. Tell her the truth, and as long as you take care not to hurt her feelings, she’ll be happy, even grateful for it. Beware, guys. Beware!

3. Intelligence
Ooh! Probably the most natural trait. You can’t fake intelligence, can you? Women like intelligent men. Now by that, I don’t mean you need to have high maths grades in class XIIth but, you need to talk sense. No woman likes to explain things to a guy like his teacher. She expects you be a grown up man and act for yourself. Women are attracted to men who are smart and can carry an intelligent conversation with her. She looks upto him for making decisions and it gives them a kind of reassurance for their needs and desires.

4. Do not be clingy
Guys do just the opposite! No! don’t! Stop right there! You are making her run away from you. The last thing a woman wants is a guy standing right outside her door whenever she walks out. Or, 20 missed calls and 100 text messages per day. Take it in writing, the more you do it, the more she’ll run away from you. Act cool, and she’ll love it!

5. Dominance
Now, this doesn’t mean you suffocate her, but hold a command over her. Don’t influence her but have your own stand. Women like dominant men; Don’t cling around her, don’t wait for her to say something, don’t be her pup! Lead. That’s what she wants you to do!

6. Being a friend first
Here, I recall a line from a famous movie- “the first step to love is friendship”. Rightly said, you cannot expect a girl to date you without even knowing you. Be a friend, be there for her, give her your time, maybe a shoulder to cry on and then giving her reasons to laugh. Gift her things she likes, a random phone call at night, a good night message. These simple gestures may cost very little, but you never know what impression they leave on her heart. Keep doing those little things for her and make out of the friendzone!

7. Attentiveness
Never allow a girl to feel you’re not interested in what she’s saying. It’s basic manners. You listen to her, and she’ll do the same for you. And, you’re also benefitting out of it, ultimately you’re at the receiving end and you’re getting to know her better. Girls are very particular about all this and if she finds you not paying attention, you better not expect another date with her!

8. Sense of humour
Oh, what’s this doing here? It should be on the top! The greatest mantra to get a girl is to make her laugh. Do not give her any opportunity to find faults in you. Keep her occupied and drive her blue away; have a good time with her, but clean jokes. No woman likes dirty and double meaning jokes! Be natural and you’ll definitely win her heart!

9. Challenge
This is what men don’t seem to get! Women see men as a challenge and they want to win you as much as you want to win them! Do not just give in. don’t spill the beans so easily. Make her wait, let her ask and then answer. She sees you as the peak of the mountain she’s climbing on, let her do it for herself and reach at the top! Don’t build an elevator right in between. I hope you got the point?!

10. Be yourself
Last but not the least, be your own self. Even if you’re weird, women love weird! The last thing she’d want to be enlightened with an odd habit of yours she didn’t know a month ago! No, don’t ever let that happen! She’d love to walk with a man who she knows 100% even though he’s not perfect than a perfect but fake dude. Be yourself and win her heart!
