This poem is from my imagined perspective of an executioner, a person who carries out the execution of people who are given a death sentence. It reflects my personal opinion about capital punishment. Every killer we kill will never kill again, but killing killers makes us no better.
Of haunted eyes,
And every man that dies.
Of remorse and penance,
And a guilty conscience.
Of an empty life,
Only full of dread.
Of living in fear
Of what lies ahead.
The words rang in my head,
Another guilty, made it nine.
But as I looked up at the prisoner,
His guilt doubled up with mine.
When I walked down my street,
Their stares bore holes in me.
But they wouldn't meet my eye,
Afraid of what they’d see.
Yet another night
Of nightmares and shame.
And the morning that followed
Told me reality was the same.
They say that one criminal dead
Is one criminal gone.
But with every man I hang,
A criminal in me is born.

To begin with, why even pass criminals through trials, does that make us better?
And yes, there is no such thing as a fair trial. But without law the society would be a chaos.
Moreover, I don't know. But what I do know is that capital punishment isn't the way. Not according to me at least.
The murderer too killed a person. You want the relatives of the victim to suffer?
But if we take his life, we're no different than him!
And if relatives of the victim demands it?
But what's the justice when a murderer kills? The life's gone. What is justice now?
And in my opinion, the dead are gone. Nothing anyone does can bring him back. So is taking another person's life the solution? Is that justice?
In my opinion, no it isn't.
A life for a life? No thanks.
And don't ask me what the solution is, because I don't know it.
I think, an eye for an eye, a life for a life is PERFECT justice.
What else could be more perfect? A padmshree for a murderer?
It is the victim who will decide, if he/she wants the head, or the blood money, or return forgiveness.
keep it up..
